|***UPDATE 5/12*** Turns out that people liked the idea of a Fair Trade Bike Ride so much that all of the spots we had for registration are filled up - whoa!  But, even if you're not riding - you can still party with us on Saturday from 2-430pm!  Read on for the details...(For those who are riding - you will still plan to meet at City Feed in Jamaica Plain before 10am)

Looking for something FUN, FREE and FAIR to do on Saturday, May 14th?

Join Fair Trade Boston for World Fair Trade Day in Harvard Square from 2 – 4:30 PM to celebrate the impact that Fair Trade is having globally and locally. Since 2008, Fair Trade Boston has worked to expand access to and awareness about Fair Trade goods in Cambridge and Boston. The event will feature opportunities for the following:

  • Taste Fair Trade goodies (including Fair Trade ice cream from our friends at Ben & Jerry’s!) from local businesses
  • Discover innovative solutions from local activists about Fair Trade and related economic justice issues in our communities and across the globe.
  • Engage with a grassroots movement to make Cambridge a Fair Trade Town

Fair Trade is a way of doing business that builds equitable, long-term relationships between consumers and producers. Fair Trade guarantees that workers and farmers on whom people rely receive decent wages and protection of human rights. Fair Trade prices include a social premium, which workers collectively invest in the environmental sustainability and development of their communities.

The Harvard Square event is the final stop of the metro-Boston area’s first event Fair Trade bike ride, sponsored by Fair Trade Boston and the Boston Cyclist Union. The 15-mile ride will celebrate the ever-expanding range of Fair Trade certified products in Cambridge and Boston. Beginning in Boston, the ride will stop at businesses serving free Fair Trade snacks and providing information about their commitment to worker justice.
